  Awards & Achievements
Dr. B.Venkateswara Rao did his Ph.D in Water Resources from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU) and is presently working as Professor & Head, Centre for Water Resources in the same University. He has obtained his masters degree from Andhra University in the field of Geophysics in the year 1984. He was an anchor to develop the Centre for Water Resources by starting M.Tech. (Water and Environmental Technology) and Ph.D (Water Resources Management) programmes apart from developing relevant laboratories at the centre. He has executed nine R&D projects sanctioned by national and international funding agencies and guided 44 M.Tech.
and 3 Ph.D theses in the water and environmental issues. He has published over 61 research papers many of them are in both National and International journals.

Dr. Rao is life member of many professional organizations in the field of water resources, few of them includes IWRA, AGID, IWRS, IAH, AHI, and AEG. He is also co-ordinator for Part Time Post Graduate Progrmmes at Institute of Science and Technology J.N.T. University. His areas of research interest include Ground Water Resources Exploration and Management, Environmental pollution and Impact Assessment, Hard Rock Hydrology, Siltation and Sustainability of Multipurpose Reservoir projects and Watershed Management. He is referee to the International Journal of Remote Sensing and Indian Journal of Remote Sensing.

He is an expert committee member for Selection of the projects and personnel in the prestigious National bodies like Department of Science and Technology, Council of Scientific and Industrial Research and National Geophysical Research Institute, Central Research Institute for Dryland Agriculture and Osmania University. He served as Member Board of Intermediate Govt. of Andhra Pradesh. He has been governing body member for many engineering colleges in Andhra Pradesh. He is a Member of Technical Advisory Committee of National Institute of Hydrology.. The University of Birmingham, U.K. has conferred upon Dr. Rao the title of Honorary Research Fellow in the school of Engineering during 2004-2005. He has also been awarded best citizen award by International Publishing House, New Delhi.

In recognition of his outstanding contribution in the field of New and Emerging Sciences, the Govt. of Andhra Pradesh is conferred on him the Andhra Pradesh Scientist Award-2006.

Field Experience and Achievements
Hundreds of bore wells were constructed in different hydrogeological environments (like Deccan Traps in Gujrat and Maharashtra, Khondalites and Granites in A.P.) based on hydrogeological and geophysical investigations conducted by me, with an overall success rate of 75% (Under NABARD norms)
Conducted extensive hydrogeological and geophysical investigations to delineate salinity intrusion zones in coastal Sourashtra region.
Hydrological and geohydrological investigations were conducted while constructing the lift irrigation schemes in northern parts of Eastern Ghats of A.P.
Evolved a methodology for identification of sites for high yielding bore wells in northern parts of Eastern Ghats of A.P.
Analysed the Hyderabad water supply problems and suggested some remedial measures to Govt. of A.P., which has implemented the suggestions like, recharge pit in the individual houses.

Laboratory Development
Following laboratories were established at Centre for Water Resources, JNT University.
Computer Simulation & Modelling Laboratory: A modern simulation and modelling laboratory is established with the acquisition of 25 Pentiums connected under LAN with application softwares such as WMS, SMS, Visual Modflow, ILWIS, ERDAS and Arc View.
Hydrogeophysical Laboratory: A hydrogeophysical laboratory for ground water exploration is established in the Centre for Water Resources. The equipment includes Digital Resistively Meters, Digital Well Logging System, Proton Precession Magnetometer, Seismic Timer, Electromagnetic Equipment (VLF) and 12 channel Shallow Seismic Unit, Pumping test equipment and Resistivity imaging equipment. Many field investigations have been carried out and analyzed.
Remote Sensing Laboratory: To meet the Remote Sensing applications of water resources, a remote sensing laboratory is established with (i) Pentiums with GIS & Image processing software, (ii) Light tables and (iii) Digital planimeters (iv) GPS 5nos.

Brief assessment of the performance during last five years

In the last five years i.e., between 2003 to 2007, I have achieved tremendous progress in all walks of academic accomplishments. Apart from regular teaching at P.G. level, I have build excellent laboratory facilities for water resources evaluation, simulation and modeling by attracting an R & D fund of five million rupees through various National and International Organisations like AICTE, DST, IWMI and MoR for executing various research projects. Guided 12 M.Tech Theses and 3 Ph.D Theses apart from publishing 23 research papers. Attended half a dozen Internationals Conferences (including one at Italy, Sweden, Mexico and USA) apart from attending several Conferences and Workshops at National and State level. Every year several guest lectures were given at prestiges organizations of National and International importance including lectures at New Jersey Institute of Technology, Rutgers University, Newark and Jackson State University of USA. Organized two National and two International Conferences apart from four Short term courses during last five years.

Several administrative responsibilities were taken up during last five years. Besides being Head of the department of Centre for Water Resources, my additional responsibilities include, Coordinator for Part-Time Post Graduate programmes at IST, JNTU, Officer In-Charge, Examinations for IST, JNTU and Coordinator for JNTU Forum for Science and Technology. I am also in charge for internet facilities at IST JNTU apart from being Asst. Public Information Officer for IST, JNTU. I have tried my best to improve the quality of the services rendered by JNTU at the above offices.

Professionally I have been recognized by becoming referee to the few National and International Journals and Member for several bodies of national importance including DST, CSIR, NGRI and NIH. I also became life member of Association of Geoscientists for International Development and also member of International Water Resources Association. Edited two volumes of proceedings of International Conference on Hydrology and Watershed Management and a popular science booklet titled “Neeru Pranaadharam – Vruda Cheyakandi” was written in Telugu for the benefit of farmers and general public. Recently I have been project coordinator for the partner country (India) for an International project involving International Water Management Institute (IWMI) and Melbourne University, Australia. Some of my research works of public importance was extensively reported by electronic and print media. Few honours include, conferring honorary research fellow by Birmingham University during 2005, chosen for distinguished standing by American Biographical Institute during 2003, Best Citizens of India award by International Publishing House, New Delhi during 2001and received Andhra Pradesh Scientist Award for 2006 in the field of New and Emerging Sciences.
